Data supplied by Fife Council in 2005
Public Green
Auchtermuchty Town Hall
Common Good Fund
It is not possible to determine whether Auchtermuchty has a Common Good Fund since the Annual Accounts of Fife Council consolidate financial information from all 25 former burghs in one Statement and hence it is not possible to determine the precise balance of the Auchtermuchty Common Good Fund
My Commentary
Auchtermuchty Common was, I understand, formerly part of the Common Good of Auchtermuchty but prior to the abolition of Town Councils in 1975, it was transferred to the ownership of the Macduff Trust to whom it still belongs.
The following extract is from the Macduff Trust website
"In 1974 local government re-organisation meant that the Town lost its Town Council and self-government. The then Provost, Mr Carswell, declared that we would, "no let thae boys in Cupar get oor common" and established the Macduff Trust with a small capital sum and the money from the Inheritors' bank account and registered the area at the Sasine Court in Edinburgh in the Trust's name. The 12 members of the final Town Council became trustees.
