Common Good Fund

Ayr has a Common Good Fund has a significant balance but the Balance Sheet consolidates the accounts of Ayr, Troon, Prestwick and Girvan and hence it is not possible to determine the precise balance of the Ayr Common Good Fund though it has a revenue balance of £320,000.

Commentary

Ayr has an extensive portfolio of Common Good assets and its Common Good Fund is the second most valuable in Scotland following Aberdeen. However, a number of controversies have broken out over the administration and management of the Fund. Most recently, there was a public campaign against the sale of part of the Old Racecourse to construct a new Ayr Grammar Primary School.
