Data supplied by Aberdeenshire Council in
2005
Aberdeenshire Council supplied no information on Common Good assets in Banff (in fact they supplied no information at all on any Common Good land in Aberdeenshire - they simply never replied to our enquiries).
Common Good Fund
Banff has a Common Good Fund. However, the accounts of Aberdeenshire Council consolidate all Funds in one report and it is thus impossible to disaggregate them and determine the balance held by the Banff Common Good Fund.
My Commentary
No details are given in Aberdeenshire Council's accounts for 2005/06 on what property is held by which Burgh's Common Good Fund. Indeed no assets of any kind are recorded.
Banff clearly has common good assets. Indeed Duff House was the centre of perhaps the most significant legal case concerning common good in the 20th century (see Further Info). More recently, there was controversy over plans to sell Common Good land to Tesco.
Further research is required.
