Common Good Fund

The Common Good Funds of the 4 former burghs in Inverclyde are consolidated and thus it is not possible to determine the balance of the Greenock Common Good Fund.

Commentary

The Council were unable to supply a list of assets held by the Common Good Funds it administers. This is despite the fact that in the latest accounts there is recorded £ 1.214 million worth of Fixed assets. If the Finance Department knows the value of the assets, how can it be that the assets themselves cannot be identified?

Inverclyde Council also fail to account for the 3 separate Common Good Funds they administer. In the 2005/06 Accounts (see link below), all the finances are consolidated. Moreover, the Council make the erroneous claim that,

"The Inverclyde Common Good Fund must be applied for the benefit of the people of Inverclyde."

There is no such thing as the Invercylde Common Good Fund - there are (or should be) 3 funds, one each for Gourock, Greenock and Port Glasgow. Further, these funds are not for the benefit of the people of Inverclyde, they are for the benefit of the inhabitants of the 3 former burghs.
