Commentary
As part of the Hamilton Ahead Initiative (a redevelopment of the town centre), the Council has sold £ 53,267,000 of Common Good land in Hamilton. This has been the principle source of finance for the redevelopment.
However, the Hamilton Common Good Fund has capital assets of only £5,870,000 and it appears that the assets that have been created by the redevelopment (including a cinema and retail development) and paid for by the sale of Hamilton Common Good Fund assets, are not being credited to the Hamilton Common Good Fund (though interestingly, they do appear in the list above). They should be. See Hamilton Common Good Land and the Missing Millions story on page 22 in Common Good Land in Scotland. A Reviw and Critique (available at Further Information page).
