Data supplied by Fife Council in 2005

Fife Council reported no Common Good land held in Newburgh Common Good Fund.

Common Good Fund

It is not possible to determine whether Newburgh has a Common Good Fund since the Annual Accounts of Fife Council consolidate financial information from all 25 former burghs in one Statement and hence it is not possible to determine the precise balance of the Newburgh Common Good Fund.

My Commentary

It is unlikely that there were no Common Good assets when the Town Council was wound up in 1975.

The Council remains quite in the dark about many of the common good assets it holds and possesses inadequate records. In the words of their Estates Department,

"The attached list provides details of the location and description of Common Good land from the Financial Records passed to the Council from the former Burghs and District Councils. The recorded description is not always helpful and an exercise is in hand to improve this aspect. The extent of the land is not recorded because as advised above due to the vague description in the titles this is not always shown."

So, maybe something will turn up!
