Dunbartonshire Council

West Dunbartonshire Council scores 4/10.
In their letter to us in 2005, the Council attached a list of Common Good properties in Dumbarton (but none in Clydebank). The author stated that he was aware of "other properties which are held within the Common Good fund such as the Old Academy Buildings at 16 Church Street, Dumbarton and the playing fields at Townend Road, Dumbarton. However, as these are not income generating at this stage they are not included within the attached list and no definitive list of Comon Good properties is held by the Council."
This is a refreshingly frank admission of the state of records in this Council and is probably reflected in many others. The non-income earning assets should, of course, be included in any list and that the fact that no definitive list exists is a painful reminder that those charged with stewarding the assets belonging to the citizens of former burghs are failing in their duties.
